FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Can you powder coat my wheels….my dune buggy frame…my car frame?

We receive this type of question from all geographic areas.  We are a high volume commercial coater and not a source for an individual’s projects. There are several smaller coaters in our area that are very capable of helping you.  We are always happy to refer you.

The best source for finding a local coater in your area is probably the telephone book.  Many smaller companies do not have websites.  You may get a good referral from a body or auto restoration shop in your area.

  1. What types of products do you coat?  Is there a minimum?

We have a diverse customer base that  includes companies that sell cabinetry, point-of-purchase displays, home products and after-market auto accessories, although we certainly are not limited to these categories. Many of the parts are easily recognizable, including car and truck accessories or exercise equipment but others may not be visible to the consumer.

Our minimum charge is $350.00 for each color.

  1. Is powder coating toxic to the environment?

Powder coating was developed as a response to the concerns over solvent emissions in wet paints.  Powders are applied dry….and melt, flow, polymerize and cure at temperatures of 350 to 475 degrees. There are very low VOCs and the unused materials are treated as regular waste.

  1. How long should I expect a coated piece to last?

The life of the coating varies dramatically based on the product and its environment.  Coatings on indoor products can last for decades.  The coating is very durable but still can be damaged by impact or breaks in the substrate.  Products in very wet, moist environments will have a shorter life, although still far greater than a liquid painted surface.  All metals will eventually break down and often it begins on an uncoated surface such as inside a tube or from an incomplete weld area.

  1. How quickly will I receive my order?

Our average turnaround time is 3 days, but some orders may take less time and others with more complex issues may take longer. For example, subcontracted stripping, pre-treatment or off line masking will add additional time.

  1. What additional types of services do you offer?

We sub-contract work to metal strippers, platers, blasters, etc.  We also offer value-added services including packaging,  assembly and fulfillment.  These services improve overall turnaround time for our customers and reduce their storage space requirements as well.

  1. How can I be assured that your company processes meet industry codes?

Powder Services, Inc. is an ISO 9000-2001 certified company and follows the best practices to provide our customers with top quality powder coated parts.  These practices include diligent maintenance, training and quality control efforts.  Our in-house lab maintains a salt spray test chamber, impact/bend testers, as well as various thickness gauge devices.
